. EASTERN maori electorate. , By Telegraph.—Press Association. Gisborne, December 21. The following*are the returns to hand for the Eastern Maori ©lection 'Wi Per©, 2423 ; Tare Mote, 514 ; Moika Taruke, 184 ; Tamati Tautnhi, 781; Eriata Nopera, 65. Three returns to come. The smallness of the voting in the Urewora country is remarkable ; thus at Ahikerern anti To Whaiti, two ot the largest settlements of Tuhoo laud, only five and nine votes respectively were cast, whilst at Tokaanu, where 101 votes wore recorded at last election, only four were polled. This may bo accounted for as due either to lack of interest (there being no local man standing upon the present occasion) or from religious scruples. 'lho elections tliis year were hold on iv. and this being the Uauhaus’ holy d probably their religious ordinances forbade them taking part in affairs mand.inc. NORTHERN MAORI ELEC TOR\TS. Russell, December 21. So far Hone Heko his polled 1333 votes; Epraima Ka-pa, 372. A few returns are yet to come in, but are expected to increase Hoke’s majority.
