Nkw Zealand Times Office, December 19, 1390. Messrs A. G. Taine and Co. report of their horse sale on BaturdayThe attendance was good, and the entry was a fair one, representing all classes except draughts, only one being offered. Tho sales were mostly confined to the lower class of horses, buyers not feeling inclined to give the price askedfor a few of the better class of harness sorts. The approach of tho holidays no doubt also Interfered with the demand for express and spring carters, ■but after tho New Year we expect a good demand for horses of this class. Draughts would have sold, and buyers are at last awake to tho fact that they arc almost unattainable except at extreme rates., Ponies and hacks sold better than usual, ranging up to T 9. Quotations at present are about aa follows: —Heavy draughts, £2l toi'JO; medium, £IS to £2O; spring carters and express Uorsm, young, 4,10 to £H; aged, £5 to £O. Intending sellers and buyers should note that our sale this week will be on Wednesday, instead of Saturday. Messrs Abruiiam and Williams report:— Tne entry of stock at Culyton on Tuesday was conlined principally to sheep. The bidding was dull but generally vendors’ prices wore in excess of ruling rales. For cattle the only competition was for nine young steers. Wo quote : Two-tooth owes, (is- fat ewes, ss; 10 to 20 month steers, 40s ; yearling Xo 15 months, 32s lid. At Palmerston cm Friday a full muster of cattle came forward, the bulk of the entry coming from Mr John McDonald’s Horowliemia run. There were useful steers throughout. Bidding for steer stock was fairly active, but heifers wore quite neglected. Sheep m moderate numbers moved off somewhat slowly under the hammer.
