WOMEN'S SOCIAL AND POLITICAL LEAGUE.
• Tho Women’s Social and Political League • held an enjoyable invitation 44 social ” in the Skating Kink last night, when there was a very largo attendance. Shortly before 9 tbe Premier, accompanied by tho Hons T, Thompson, W. C. Walker, W. Hall-Jonos and J. Carroll, arrived, and received by tho president (Mrs Seddon) and the officers of tho League, the party being warmly applauded, Minifie’s Band in the meantime playing 44 See tho Conquering Hero." The arrival of the Hons J. McKenzie and J. G. Ward later on was also tho signal for applause. The Ministeiial party .were conducted to the stage, which had been .tastefully furnished as a drawing-room. Besides the Ministers there were present on the stage the Hon J. G. Ward. Messrs J. Hutcheson, GeorgePishor and C. Wilson. Immediately after.arriving, the Premier, addressing those present on behalf of tbe president of the League, said he had very great pleasure in welcoming them there that evening. They were called from labour recreation. On Friday, 4th December, they had had a work to perform, and it was performed liv a meritorious manner, which redounded very much to their credit, and he felt sure it would bo to the benefit of tbe people of the Colony. (Cheers.) Ho thought those who had decided to call them together that evening to enjoy the mazy waltz and each other’s company were to be cmgratnlatcd for coming to such a conclusion. As they bad had so much speechifying of lato, ho would not say any more, but 'Would again welcome them and express a hope that they would enjoy themselves and pass a very pleasant evening. (Applause.) Dancing was then commenced, to the music of Mmifio’s band, Messrs H. B. Mason and Barnes acting as M’s.C. Vocal selections wore given ao intervals during tho evening by Mcsdames Moore and Swindells, Miss Pender, Messrs Ellison, <J. Zacbariah, S. Gifford and -Toner. Miss Livingstone contributed a yory artistic skirt dance, and Mr Morgan a recitation. A liberal supply of refreshments was provided, and these were dispensed by the members of the League daring one of the intervals.
■ The “ social,” which was the most enjoyable and successful function hold in the Kink for a long time, wa>j brought to a close by the singing of 44 Auld Lang Syne.”
