THE “LAST JUDGMENT. "

Ppohr’s''“ Last Judgment** was performed last night at St. Mark's Church by the choir, under tho direction of the organist and; conductor, Mr Laurence Watkins, who played tho.accompaniments. , Tho- work was* generally well given, but was obviously too ambitious for a small choir. Miss Hamorton, the-soprano soloist, was.probably -hoard- to best advantage in tho duct for soprano and tenor, “ Forsake Mo Not in This Dread Hour," sung with Mr W;- R. rßlow. Mr J. E. Pago, who had a lot of solo work, may claim as his best effort the tenor- solo. “ Blessing, Honour, Glory and Power," and the r accompanying chorus was one of the finest of the evening, -all the loads being attacked. with precision, . and .. the marks of expression faithfully observed. Thequartot; “ Lord God of Heaved and Barth " was capitally given. Mrs P. P. Webb, who sang the ,alto part, deserves special praise. Mr W. .‘J. Hues ton was satisfactory in tho bass solo V Thus Saith the Lord,” bat the fine quartet. “ Blest are the Departed," by Master Ivon Watkins, Mrs Webb and Messrs J. E. Page and Schwartz, was disappointing. The chorus work generally was excellent, “If with Your Whole Hearts" and the final “Great and Wonderful are all Thy Works ** being notably good. There was a numerous attendance. • ■
