Tapper urged that duties in favour of tho colonies against foreigners wore the only way to secure tho commercial federation of tho Empire. Received December 10, 0.30 a.m. London, December 9. At a luncheon given by the Empire Trade League to Sir C. Tuppor, Messrs Playford and Lowles/ who lately visited tho colonies, wore present. Sir C. Tapper denied tho assertion that the Australian colonies did not desire commercial federation Preferential duties would meet the immediate necessity, and the fears that the foreigners would retaliate were unworthy of Groat Britain.
