WELLINGTON RACING CLUB’S 1 STEEPLECHASE MEETING. Most of tho visiting horses have now arrived, and tho Hutt Park racecourse presented a busy appearance on Saturday morning. W. H. Keith, sheltered at McNab’s gardens, was tho early bird, and the only mentor to work hia charges before breakfast. They galloped solus. Eat, Bowshot, Crimson Streak and Docility did half pacing, the other member of the team; Narrate, doing three-quarter work. After breakfast The Plug, who is very fit, and fought fof 1 hia hekd, did” four rounds on the sand gallop. Tii ere was some disappointment at the course proper not. being open'. A. Ellingham’s other charges, Haoata arid Kaika, did useful work. Tho Hawke’s Bay Steeple winner, trainer up, is in good form. Piscador (W. Edwards), a fine upstanding gelding by Fiscal orious Kate Ferguson (darn of St. Katherine) was given two miles at afllowpace. W. Fergus sent Seabreeze, perhaps tho fittest horse on the ground, a mile at a strong pace. T. Quinlivan sent Canard {who is none too sound) and Rangipunehu medium pace gallops. The latter is evidently as useful as hia performances recommend. St. Kiida (Byers), Lotion (R. Connop), Booties (E. Williams), Dummy, Tippler. Crawley, Strowan, King Wax were sent over easy tasks. A< Peters gave Bona Fide (who galloped with Austral) a sound gallop. The son of Sou’-weater is pretty forward, and might effect a surprise in the Parliamentary Handicap. The pair of greys. Joker (whose work was superintended by Messrs B. and C. Wyim-Williamo,- of Christchurch) and the Hawke’s Bay performer Glengarry, are like as two peas.- Both are evidently more than useful members of their class. The hacks Crescent, Otakapau and Barrel wore also among the gallopers. Of the maiden candidates, Spermaceti moved in a satisfactory manner/ Tu' Kingi (a two-year-old) also' : shaped well'. Another two-year-old in was worked. The only botse to jtttap ttefc Violence, who got over tho sod wftll twria without mishap, and will take boating in the Maiden Steeplechase.
