SEIZED WITH CRAMP, AND DROWNED.

By Telegraph.—Press Association. Napier, June 29. John Simmons, groom for Air George Macdonald, was drowned at Konlnl Gorge yesterday with throe horses in endeavouring to cross the river. While a drag with five horses driven by A. McDonald, together with the usual passenger coach driven by A. Knox, attempted to cross the Gorge, which appeared to he quite 'safe, the horses almost immediately got out pf their depth and the drag was instantly submerged. Simmons, who had been sitting on a bag of chaff in the back of the dray, and who wp-a a first-class swimmer, immediately struck oijt fop tl}p shore, hut it was not until McDonald and Knox regained a place of safety that it was found he had disappeared. As the water was very cold, it is supposed bo was seized with cramp.
