MEETING OF CREDITORS.
A meeting of the creditors of P. L. Harnett, licensee of the Travellers’ Kest Hotel, Taita, was held at the Official Assignee’s office yesterday. The Official Assignee presided, and there were ten creditors present. Mr Skerrett appeared for the bankrupt, Air Bunny for Mr Minogue, and Mr Heap fpr Taaro tyaitara, the landlord of the hotej. 'f'he bankrupt deposed that he had on one occasion boon Offered £llOO for the property, but the negotiations fell through, ifis debts had been accumulating for soma years, while ha was opt pf work, and most of them wore due before he took the hotel. To Mr Bunny: He retired from the Polipe Force in September, 1893- He did not owe apy money after ho had disbursed his compensation, and he had about 3150 in hand. As a life insurance canvasser ho made from 33 to 33 10s a week. He was connected with the Government Life Insurance until about July, 1894, at which time he owed about .£230, of which about 3100 was spent on the property and close on 3100 on new furniture. To the Official Assignee: He had proposed to offer 5s in the pound, but some of the creditors thought it was ridiculously low, seeing that his assets were greater than his liabilities. The question of perfecting the lease, and 50 making bankrupt’s property saleable, was discussed at some length. It was eventually decided that tenders be called for the lease and the whole estate, the Assignee paying the rent due on the acceptance of any tender. The Assignee was also empowered to spend 33 on obtaining a Jedge’s confirmation order of the lease. The mooting then adjourned until Thursday, the 27th inst., at 11 a.m.
