POLITICAL NOTES.

Ministers were in Cabinet yesterday afternoon and again at night up till 12 o’clock. The vacant portfolios have not yet been filled up. Thera will bo another Cabinet meeting to-day. Mr Venn is to be a candidate for the Otaki seat at the general election. . ■ Butnonr has it, says the Wairarapa Star, that Mr George Beetham intends returning from England, settling in Masterfcon, and contesting the Masterton seat with Mr Hogg, M.H.B. If there is one fact fnade mere blear than another by the result of Thursday’s election, it is that the Liberal vote in this constituency .is strong enough to overwhelm any possible opposition. It is for the Liberals—and in this term we wish to include every section of tho party—to say whether they will unite and conquer or whether they will remain apart and suffer another defeat.—Lyttelton Times.
