Having completed his studies at. the Propaganda, Rome, ho was appointed a Professor and later on Rector of Holy Cross College, Clonliffe, Dublin. Subsequently tho dignity of Monsignor was conferred upon him, and in 1889 he was appointed first rector of the new Ecclesiastical College .founded at Manly by Cardinal Moran, Monsignor Yerdon was chosen at the late Plenary Council to represent the Australian bishops in Rome, and was on his way fid’ take up bis duty when ho was appointed Bishop of Dunedin- Hq was a personal friend of Bishop Moran,
