NEW CASE LAW. IMPORTANT RULING AS TO OFFSIDE PLAY. The New Zealand Rugby Union is issuing further case law embodying recent decisions, as follows ; A ball thrown at right angles to the touch-line which bounds forward on striking tho ground is not to bo considered as a “ knock on.” A “fair catch ” must be a clean catch at the first attempt, and the mark must not bo allowed unless made in accordance with the law. When tho ball is in a scrummage every player except those in the scrummage must stand on his own side of a line drawn through tho centre of the scrummage and at right ■ angles with the touch - line ; otherwise he shall be adjudged off-side. A half-back or other player outside the sci am putting or kicking the ball back into a scrum after it ha’s como out places his forwards offside, and should be penalised under rule 11f, if the act was intentional. Where a ball kicked by a player from a mark is blown back over his goal line and “ forced down ” or into “ touch-in-goal,” a scrum should be formed where the mark was made. The match between the St. Patrick’s College and Wellington College teams will be played at Petone this afternoon, and also the final for the Third-class Championship between the Poneke third and Selwyn second fifteens. . As a lot of interest’is being taken in the contests there should be a largo attendance.
