“RUDDIGORE.”

The second performance of Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic opera "Euddigore” was given by the Wellington Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society in the Opera House last night. There was a very numerous audience, and they showed their appreciation of the performance by frequent outbursts of applause and numerous encores. Mrs H, J. Miller again made a most favour* ablo impression as Rose Maybud. She was particularly successful in the “ Etiquette ’’ song, which was promptly encored. As Mad Margaret Miss Newton scored an immense success. Tho duet with Sir Dospard Murgatroyd (Mr Geo. F. Parsons), ,c I once was a very abandoned person," secured a unanimous encore. As Daino Hannah Mrs Burfoot showed an improvement on her acting of the previous night, and sang her songs in a most artistic manner. Mr W. D. Lyon again scored as Robin Oakapple, and Mr E. J. Hill was. a most dapper and nimble Richard Dauntless, the man-of-war’s man, and was promptly encored for his splendid dancing of a sailor’s hornpipe, Mr Geo. F. Parsons’ representation of tho character of Sir Despard Murgatroyd was most effective, and Mr A. E. Mabin sang and acted W'ell as Sir Roderic Murgatroyd. The opera will be repeated to-night, when a bumper house may lie expected.
