RUDDIGORE.
10-night the opening performance of the Amateur Operatic Society’s season will take place in the presence of His Excellency the Governor and Lady Glasgow. The leading idea in the plot is a lino of baronets' with a curse on them. A’witch,\ho-’was burpt at the stake, was the author of the curse by the terms of which eypry Baropet of lluddigoro is compelled to Commit a, crime each day or perish. The plot is constructed around this central idea. The opera is intended as a skit or caricature on the oldfashioned melodrama, worked out of course in Gilbert’s own peculiar style; all the characters going through the most absurd and impassible of actions in the most seriqus aii<J matter-of- faot way. The petien takes place in thp beginning of the present century, and not a little of the attraction lips in the quaint dresses of that period. Wo understand that the dressing will he very good, and that tho scenery, which has been all specially painted, is very pretty and appropriate. "With such favourites as Mrs Miller, Mr Lyon, Mr ffjll arid Mrs Burfoot in the cast, it goes without saying that a good representation will be "given. Last nigh t a dross rehearsal was held, when everything went without a bitch, and the ’ s‘e.aaop"’ should" be thoroughly successful,
