“THE OLD HOMESTEAD.”

The Leitch - Rose Dramatic Company opened a short season at the Opera House last night with the domestic drama "The Old Homestead/' an old favourite under a new name. There was a very good audience. The play is after the usual style of such pieces; knavery succeeds for a time, but virtue triumphs in the end, Mr George Leitch gave a very fine interpretation of the character of Joe Stammers, his quaint humour and drolleries being productive of much amusement, especially in. the second act, where his rough-and-ready method of house-cleaning and his non-success in culinary work were frequently, applauded, Mr Andrew Money made a fairly acceptable Lord Templemore, whilst Mr Reg. Rede acted very well the part of Mr Hackute, a respectable family solicitor. The part of Ted Bluff was capably filled by Mr A. W. Boothman. Miss Mildred Bolton filled the character of Eglantine Stammers (Tom's aristocratic wife) very capably. Miss Ida Gresham was seen to advantage as Eleanor Stammers. Miss Rosalie Carlton somewhat lacked confidence in the part of Milly Stammers. Miss Minnie Goldie as Finette, and Mr J. H. Martin as Tom Stammers, were tho principal minor characters of the cast. Altogether the performance was' very creditable, and should attract good houses. " The Old Homestead " is to bo repeated to-night.
