Tho lion J. G. Ward has addressed the following to the Association ■ “The statement wired by you that there is a (ieflcit of iSi.ODO in the revenue of the Colony is not correct. I may state that the condition of- the finances clearly indicates there is nothing ;in the announced deficit yhe fact is apparently overlooked that in computing my estimate for the year-1894-93 I reduced' estimated receipts by .£133,538. The receipts or every department except railways send customs are in excess pf the actual amount received last year, apd I havo .no hesitation in 'saying my forecast will be fully realised, The excesses from the various departments wilt I feel; sure, more than make up the estimated shortage from railways and customs.”
