FOOTBALL.
The altention of the Management Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union has been drawn to statements contained in tho Dunedin papers of last Thursday, to the effect that the captain of the Christchurch Club had telegraphed to the Pirates Club, of Dunedin, that they would play the annual match whether permission was granted or not, and that a telegram of like ; effect ted been received from Invercargill. Tho Committed Live decided to call the attention of the Canterbury and Southland Unions to the statements, and ask them whether tho telegrams were sent by clubs affiliated to their Unions.
The following team will represent the Red Star first fifteen against Melrose' at Wellington on Thursday next: —Rack, Wrigley ; three-quarters. Do Joux, Cargill, Norton ; halves, Hansen, Remeni; forwards, T. Wrigley, Wilson, Morris, Welch, Igguldon, Jeffries, J. Emmett, Cochrane and Buteasent; emergencies, A. Emmett, Westbrook. In tho match Star second v. Oriental second at Masterton to-morrow, the following will represent tho Star :—Thompson, Tindall, Tucker, Furness, Merson, Blair, Rash, Clayton, Herron (2), Murrell, O’Malley, Upchurch, Donald, Cording. Train from To Aro at 7 a.m.
The following will play for tho Selwyn against Featherston at No. 2 ground, Petone, tc-morrow: Smith, Shilling, Mona, Madden, Fraser (2), Oswin, McKay, Sutherland, Whitehouse, McFarlanc, Ziman, Earle, Minogue, Orr. Emergencies— Backs, Gamble, Letham ; forwards, Redmond, Smith, Members of team are to catch the 9.37 train from Te Aro to meet tho Featherston team at Petone. The match starts' aft 2.30 p.m. J. Cassells, who has just returned from Auckland, where he played for the Grafton Club, has joined the Athletic Club.The following team has been picked to represent the Drapers’ Club to-morrow againstthe St. John’s at Petone: —Reid, tenham, Osborne, Collins, Turner, McGuire, Marter, Smith, Willstead, Brown, Armstrong, Orr, Euffell, Duff, Barry. The train leaves To Aro Station at 2.13 p.m. The Athletic Football Club's first and Cfeoond fifteens play similar fifteens of the United Greytown Club at Greytown tomorrow. Train leaves Te Aro at 7 o'clock and Thorndon at 7AO. ASSOCIATrON FOOTBALL. A meeting of the Council of the Wellington Football Association was held last night. Mr C. H. Izard (president) in the chair. It was decided that as Hailwood had played for tho Queen's Park illegally itt last Saturday’s Championship match, the tie be played again after the present fixtures. Messrs Clark, Henderson, Fraser, and Gamble were appointed an executive committee, to which a letter from the Wellington Football Club, with reference to sub-leasing tho Association ground, was referred. It was decided to raise a subscription on behalf of Bell, who was injured during tho match at Hobson street last Saturday. The Swifts are to practise at the Hobson street ground to-morrow.
