PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

An ordinary monthly meeting of the Pctone Borough Counoil was held last evenin', the member* present b iug the Mayor (Mr B, C. Kirk) and Councillors Hollard, Austin, Couohmun, Burnley, Dusty, P. C. Smith, Gayuor and J. Smith. The Finance Committee recommended tho payment of accounts to the amount of £228 4i 9d. The bank overdraft stood at £925 5a IQd. The March ro'udpts amounted to £37 17«9d; payments, £137 2d. The committee recommended that no expenditure of any unnecessary sort be incurred until the new rates came in, as the council’s overdraft is almost up to the limit, aod little or no revenue is expected during the next two months. The report was adopted, Ths Works Committee recommended—That owners of doga unregistered on the 19th ba sued, and that the registrar have powor to sue, and employ the borough solicitor if necessary ; that the attention of the police ho called to tho number ot people driving at night without lights ; that the tender ol Mr Wobley be accepted at 11s per case for supply cf kerojeue for 12 months ; that the Sanitation Committee's first report be adopted, and that tho general rate be increased to Is 3i in the £ to provide funds for tho removal of nighisotl by the council. Tho report was adopted. A statement prepared by tho clerk showed that the cost up to tho present of repairing the damage to the streets by the late 11 jod was £IBO 12s 3d. Xt was explained that that amount would not cover the whole of the expenditure. Tho engineer was instructed to place tho culvert in Cuba street in a condition fit to carry light traffic. The attention of the engineer was drawn to a case of broach of the building by-laws, by the placing of a shingle roof on a building recently erected.
