The greater number of the horses engaged in the Spring Meeting are now on the scene of action. Mr Gollan’a Pearl Powder and Mr Donnelly's Hakimana cathe down from Napier on Wednesday, both looking well. The Blenheim contingent—Mr J. E. Pilbrow’s Puni, Flywheel, and Marechal Neil, Mr Baxs Rocket and Wanganui, Mr Dodson's Beggarmail. and Mr Cress’ Bismarck—also arrived on Wednesday. Mr Bristol's She arrived yesterday from Wanganui, Mr George being in charge. Other arrivals are Mr Freeth’s Rebellion and Revolution. The rest of the Wairarapa candidates are expected to-day. Wo understand that Mr Pilbrow intended to accept for the first day's races with his three, but after coming across with them and* getting them safely to the Hutt he managed to forget to send In his acceptances at the proper time, and of course they could not be received afterwards. Mr Best's Osman has been scratched for the Handicap Hack Flat Raie on the first day of the Wellington Spring Meeting. DUNEDIN J.C. SPRING MEETING. (press association.) Ddnedin, November 26. The D.J.C, Spring Meeting was favoured with fine weather, the first part of the day being bright and sunny, but overcast later on. The attendance was fair considering the day was not a holiday, but it was scarcely up to last year and a good bit behind the Exhibition year. The Earl and Countess of Omlow were present during the day. The arrangements were very creditable. Mr Driver officiated as starter, but was only moderately successful. The racing was good, and the finishes interesting, and in the Cup very exciting. The amount put through the totalisators was L 6597. which is L 957 less than last yoar, and over L6OOO less than the Exhibition year. The following are the results : Spring Hurdles Handicap, of 100 sovs • second 10 sovs, third 5 sovs. Two miles and a distance. 147 Messrs M. and O. taken to the front, and led over the hurdle ii front of the stand, where Kungiora came t grief. The black horse led for the first mile ■ with Christmas at his girths, and Captaii Abram two lengths off. This was the poaitior • on passing the stand the second time. A 1 » along the back stretch Waitangi was stil. > kept in the van, but Captain Abram was jumping beautifully, and it was evident he i would play an important part in the final j issue. At the distance the three closed up, i and the whip was out ou Waitangi, who failed . to respond. Christmas was in front till after passing the public stand, but Captain Abram i overhauled him a little further on and eventually won by a length. Time, 4min 25«ec. On the inside totalisator there were 321 investors and LlOl on the winner, outside 170 investors and LlGon the winner; dividends, L 2 17s and U G- CJ. Maiden Plate, of 80 sovs, w.f.a. Apology was taken to the front, and led past the stand by ft couple of lengths, with Yataghan and Dilemma as his nearest attendants, Adventurer already tailing off. At the half mile post Apology had shot her bolt and dropped back, lieau Nash and Yataghan going on in front together. These two seemed to have the race to themselves, and Beau Nash shaking off Yataghan seemed to be winning, but Dilemma was brought up with a well timed run, and got home by a neck. Time, 2min 18sec. On the inside machine there were 508 investors, L2Bl on the winner ; outside, 204 investors, L 137 on the winner. Dividends, LI 12s 6d and LI 14s 6d. Holmes); also started. Whimper and Dilemma were scratched. Nearly a quarter of an hour was cut to waste owing to Cajolery .refusing to join his field, and wheu the flag did fall to a straggling start, he was left at tho post, while Cruchfield got away so badly that he was never able to get up to his field. May and Exile were first to show prominently with Oynisca next, and Galtee following, with Florrie and Occident in good positions, Passing thestand Exile had aslight advantage of May, but by the windmill Oynisca had taken command. Along the back stretch Occident and Florrie improved their positions, and at the bend Occident and Boulanger had replaced May and Exile as second and third. As they headed for home Boulanger appeared likely to win, especially as Florrie appeared to have been disappointed in getting up, but Mr O’Brien’s filly came with a great run at the finish under the whip, and a few yards from home got her head in front, winning by a neck. Boulanger and Occident were so close together that only the judge could separate them. British Lion, who finished gamely, was fourth, with Oynisca fifth, and the rest well together. Huguenot was first to show in front, Pique being very slow to move, Olanranald was next to Huguenot, with the others well together. As they went along the back stretch, Huguenot held a slight advantage, but Whisper appeared to tail off. Huguenot had a little the best of Olanranald as they swept into the straight, and* La Rose appeared to have a good say in the race, A splendid finish resulted in Whisper coming up with a surprising run and collaring Huguenot and Clanranald. They were so close together as they passed the post that cries were raised of a ‘ dead heat,’ but the judge gave his verdict in favor of Whisper, Olanranald being second, Huguenot a good third, Carronade and La Rose being next.
