THREE THOUSAND JEWELLERS.
The Waterbury Watch Company, in their advice to their representative in New Zealand by last mail, state that so well has their new line of 6hort*wind watches been received that already 3000 jewellers in the United States of America have sent in their orders. Considering the population of America, each of the above jewellers will represent 20,000 people, and what their requirements will ho aro not very easily estimated. New Zealand has done Its share toward building up a trade in these wonderful watches. Already 79,000 Waterbarys have been sold in this Colony, and the public will be glad to know that all the leading jewellers are carrying them in stock. Whilst this is the case with the reliable Waterbury the cheap Continental watches have almost disappeared from the Australasian markets, aa they have from America. FATAL LAMP EXPLOSION. Unfortunately lamp explosions are blooming rather frequent ; and etill, it is not always property which suffers. Not many months since we were horrified by the particulars of the South Australian Minister of Lands, caused by the bursting of a railway lamp, the burning oil from which ignited bis clothing. A later victim is Lord Romiliy, who lost bis life at the Egerton Gardens fire. The London Times in reporting the matter says, ‘‘Lord Romiliy accidentally upset the lamp, and was rendered insensible by the fumes of the burning oil.*’ The Daily News, on the other hand, simply points to the aooident as illustrating “the danger of using petroleum lamps. ** The danger, of course, caunot be entirely eradicated, bat it oau be minimised by using Luxene, the “safe light." Common low tost keroaeuo gives no security. Use Luxene, which U freer from smoke and smell, gives a softer, purer light, and burns less quickly. 4
