Owing to the carpenters’ strike, iron, concrete, and asphalt are apparently replacing wood in the construction of buildings to the extent, at least, of 40 per cent. New York, October 2. Ten thoueand miners and railway men have struck at Pittsburg for an advance in wages. (special.) London, October 2. The Riverside Unions are federating to assist the dockers. The Trades Council has given orders to boycott vessels carrying Fcdriation men. The carmen strike on Monday to assist, and a general riverside strike is impending. Mr Justice Jeune has refused tooontinnetha injunotion preventing the Carpenters’ Union from issuing placards urging the trade to leave the works of Messrs Pete Bros., builders, of Pimlico and Wilton rosd, S. W. Tbe Unionist cannon Intend to block tbs Carron and Hermitage wharves on Monday. It is reported that a Federation' of 33 Unions, embracing 450,000 members, has been completed, and is likely tc farce the masters to a universal look-out, so far as Riverside labour is concerned.
