New Zealand Times Office. Wednesday Evening.
The New Zealand Loan and Meeoantile Agency Company, Limited, report on tho produce markets for the week ending Wednesday, 10th June, as follows: Wool. —The third aeries of colonial wool sales opened in London yesterday. Our head office cable us as follows :—“The sales opened this day at tho level of last series, except coarse crossbred and medium and inferior greasy, for which the market is easier. J.ne nctenilaUco or uor.u noma ami foreign buyers is normal, and competition is fairly active. The total quantity available, including wool held over from last series, is 415,000 bales, of which 69,000 bales have been forwarded to manufacturing districts direct.” In regard to local business in this staple, there is nothing to report, the odd lute coming in affording no criticism of current value of clips.
Sheepskins.— I The quantity brought forward during the week has been aomewhafc smaller than usual, and every lot catalogued was sold at very satisfactory prices. The market closes very firm atGreen crossbreds and halfbreds (prime), 4a 6d to sa; green crossbreds and half-breda (inferior), 3a Cd to 4a 6d ; dry country ekina, 2a to 4a 6d, Tallow and Fat.—Cable advices received from London during the paat few days report the market there slightly weaker. We have, however, to report a good demand locally for all descriptions of tallow and rough fat, especially prime quality, in large lines. Our supplies were all cleared by the trade at the fo'lowing prices Prime mutton tallow, in large lines, 22a to 23s percwt; inferior to medium, 14s to 18s 6d ; rough fat, lls to 13s. Hides.—We repeat last week’s quotations— Id to 3sd per lb, according to quality and condition.
Wheat,—This market continues firm, and as stocks are light, with a brisk demand for local consumption, late rates are well maintained. A steady demand is reported from Southern markets, where prices, especially for prime milling, are firmer than ever. The weather at homo is reported favourable for the harvest, and in consequence prices are easier at Mark Lane.
Oats.—There has been more inquiry daring the week, although prices remain unaltered. Advices from the South report that the markets there are firm, and holders are asking increased prices (or prime quality. Several vessels are under charter to load at the Bluff for London, and os stocks ore considerably lighter than at this time last year, we fully anticipate higher prices ruling ere long. Bahlet.—No business of any moment passing. We quote nominally 2s to 2s fid.
Grabs Seeds;-— Small orders continue to come in from the country, which nro filled at late rates. No business, however, of any magnitude can bo looked for until the demand sets in for spring sowing. Hemp continues depressed. Cable advices from London are of a most unsatisfactory tenor, and until prices advance at Home we cannot expect any improvement locally. Of course this is the ‘ off ’ season in America, and when the cordage companies start operating to fill their season’s requirements we hope to see prices take a tuna for the better. Frozen Meat. —Cables received from London during the past few days report a quiet market. Prices for beef have declined Jd peril) since last report. Other quotations unchanged. Luring the week the sa Loric has left this port with 7715 carcases and 4405 legs mutton, 1267 and 85 pieces beelf. STOCK REPORT. Freeman K. Jackson and Co.’s Johnsonville stock report;—Fat cattle in full numbers; some of those penned were prime and the remainder medium. Competition good, but last week’s rates were not maintained ; the market, however,, was firm at 15a 6d the ICOlb. A large entry of sheep, chiefly wethers of light to medium weights were in strong demand, made 3d per lb. The consignments were irregular in size and condition. Indifferent ewes dull of sale. Tigs in usual supply. Baconers at late rates ; porkers improved iu value. No stores to hand. SHARE MARKET. The undermentioned sharebrokers report on the share market to date, June 10th, as follows
