(PROM OCR OWN CORRESPONDNT.) Mastebton, May 1

The realdenoe of Mr Donald MoKenzie, situated at Drcyerton, was totally destroyed by lire on Thursday evening. The fire was caused by a dog upsetting a tin of kerosene. The only person at homo at tho lime was Mias McKenzie, aged Hi. In her endeavour to stop tho fire her clothes caught alight, but with remarkable presence of mind she ran out and jumped into the Kopuaranga River, wbioh ia close to the house. Nothing but a sewing machine waa saved. The house was insured iu tho Standard Office for £IOO, aud tho elTeota for £SO. Mr McKenzie ia a oou. alderabio loser, (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Timap.u, May 1. By a Hro at Fairlie Crook at 10.30 laat night, Mr Caakoy’a saddlery, and Mr McDonald’s boot shop, both owned by Mr Caskey, and Mr Boll’s stable, owned by Mr 11. B. Taylor, Timaru, were destroyed, Mr Claskey lost a largo stock and hla hooks, and 800 sacks oats wore burned iu the stable. The insurances aro—£3oo on the stable, in the New Zealand, and £l5O ia the Union on Mr Caskey’s buildings. Dunedin, May 1. A barn, on Robert Campbell’s Mararoa station, was burned down, together with its contents. Tho loss is £450, and Insurance in tho Union £2OO.
