LICENSING ELECTIONS.

The Temperance party have decided to contest tho city licensing e'ectioua on Prohibition principles, and a committee has been appointed to raise funds. Dunedin, April 21. At Roslyn to-day in tho licensing elections five members of the Prohibition party were elected. They intend to close the three hotels in the district.

The licensing election to-day evoked great interest, and was keenly contested. There were three prohibitionist candidate*, four old members who stood for re-election, aud one candidate belonging to the moderate party. All the moderates were returned, the prohibitionists being defeated. The result was— Arnott, 188 ; Hamberton, 177 ;Clough, 169; Walton, 168; Hildebrand, 158 ; Dixon, 107 , Hanson and Hopkins, 100 each. The result of the local option poll has not yet been declared, but it is almost certain to be against more new licenses.
