Way has been appointed Lieutenant-Governor of South Australia. Albany, January 5. The Earl of Jersey, the now Governor of New South Wales, has arrived here. (Received January 6, 1 a.m.) Sydney, January 5. Intense heat is being experienced in city and throughout the colony generally, the temperature ranging from 97 to 113 in shade. Tremendous bush fires are raging in Barmedman district, 313 miles S.W. of Sydney. Homesteads and 3000 acres of grass are burnt.
