The Amatenr Athletic Sports were opened to-day at Lancaster Park, the weather was fine, and the attendance fairly good. The sport was excellent. _ The mile walk was won easily 07 ti. S. Boyd, North Canterbury (90yds) seoood, W. J. S. Hayward, Pioneer (10yds) third, Time, Imin 18 2 sth eeo. L. A. Caff cleared 19ft IOJm in the long Wilmot (scratch) won the Three-mile Bicycle Race ; Hayward (50yds), 2; E. E. ritzhenry, Bicycle Touring Club, Chnatchurch (220yds), 3. Time, 9min saec. S. Muter won tho Quitter-mile Flat in 53 4-Stbsec, P. Wood being second, and C. G. Rees third. t . J. Rutherford won the Half-mllo Flat in 2min 11 3-sthsec, F. W. Broughton being second and G. J. Phillips third. D. Wood won the Mile Flat in 4mm 45 3-Sthsec, easily beating his sole opponent, E. S. Levereedge. W. J. Moir put a 161 b stone 34ft 9im, Ift 3}in better than the standard.
