A macri named Tataua Matahi has made an application for sureties for the peace against two other Natives, on the ground that they accuse him of practising witchcraft, and thereby causing the death of one Fahu, which accusation, if believed in, would—according to Native custom—justify the killing of him. He also complains that one of the defendants said, “If Pakn dies, I shall shoot Tatana," and after Pakn’s death, persisted in threats to shoot him, Christchurch, November 13.
