Carbine, whose owner, Mr Donald Wallace, has backed him to win £22,000 besides tho stakes, went round gently, without allowing tho slightest symptoms of lameness or soreness. He is apparently in the height of condition. Megaphone and Tantallon were both on the track, and appeared to be in the pink of health. Whakawal, Don Giovan, and Singapore were eent rohnd. They ere all looking splendid, and their going of first-olaas order.. Whakawai gives every promise of being able to retrieve bis laurels daring the spring. Richelieu and Rich Ruby are looking as well as their best friends donld desire. Carrington is evidently returning to Ilia old two-year-Old farm. (Received October I, 10 p.m.) Melbourne, October 1.
For tho Caulfield Cup Little Bernie is a slightly better favourite than Dunkeld at 100 to 6 (tkn). Vengeance has been backed to win several thousands at 1000 to 35, Thu Jebusite is also supported for a good sum at tba same pride. One hundred to sis offered agaibst either Bothwellj Singapore, or Churchill.
Good reports are being received from Adelaide about lirmuii, and be promises to be well supported for the principal event at Caulfield.
For tho V.R.C. Derby Titan is first favourite, and the best price against him is 2to 1. Gibraltar haa the next call at 4to 1, and Whimbrel, Admiral, and Annosley at 6 to 1.
Carbine and Melos are equal favourites for the Melbourne Cup at 100 to 10 eaoh; The Queen, Gibraltar, Tantallon, and Titan, 100 to 5 eaoh.
