The latest phase of the tailoresses’ dispute is that Mr Mcßride is taking into his employ non-unioniata in the place of those gone out on strike. ’ . Mr J. P. Maxwell, one of the Railway Commissioners, who has been on a visit to this district, left to-day by the Wanaka for Wellington. Dunedin, May 15.
The proprietors of the Shag Point Colliery are proceeding civilly for an of those miners on strike who are in occupation of their houses. At a meeting to-day of the council of the Chamber of Mines, It was resolved to recommend the Government to repeal the existing legislation regirding mining certificates, and introduce a Bill providing for the grading of mining managers, and ..ah issue of certificates accordingly, provision being made for the issue of certificates other than first class to such candidates as should prove upon examination . to have been in actnal 'successful practice for a period of years as mine managers. ' . Westport, May 15. - > An accident occurred at the crane which is working in the granite quarry at Cape Foul wind this afternoon, to a man named Samuel Grant. . His wrist was broken. Another man named Donaldson was injured about his legs.
