Mr White’s horses—Plutarch, Narellap, and Kirkham—have had a trial over a distance of six furlongs, finishing in the order named, Boase had the mount Oja Narellan. AUCKLAND. R.C. MEETING. i Auckland*, January 1. The Auckland Racing Club ' continued their Summer Meeting to-day at Ellerslie. There was again a large attendance ; equal to that of Boxing Day. The racing throughout was, most interesting, the events being weil contested. The Derby was generally voted to be a moral for Tirailleur, ond so it proved, as he led from start to, finish.. The Midsummer Handicap was one of the best two-year-old races ever seen, the first four finishing in a line. At the finish of the Derby, Mrs Mitohelson decorated Tirailleur with the blue riband. Hurdle Race ; two miles.—Kneecap, 10st 81b ; Recruit, lOst 41b, 2 ; Chemist, 13st 61b, 3. Volcano, Ross iter and Hurricane also ran. Won easily by two lengths ; Chemist third, three lengths away. The Napier Park Racing Club’s -New Year’s Day Meeting was held to-day. There was a capital attendance, and some good racing. The weather was fine, and the finishes in the majority of the events very good. £5255 was put through the totalisators, the largest dividend being £32 8s on Raven in the Hack Race. For the Midsummer Annual Meeting much rain fell in the afternoon. The attendance was 600. The new grandstand and offices were much admired. There is now splendid accommodation for the public. Motumotu Handicap, or 50 sovs; one mile.—Mr C. Hobbs’ Little Shamrock, Oat 61b, 1; Mr Morse’s Lonely, 7st, 2; .Mr Hungerford’s Hermitage, 9st 2!b,' 3. Mr E. Merson’a Honesty also ran. Dividend, £1 17b. Midsummer Handicap, of 120 sovs; one mile and three-quarters..—Seven entered. British .Lion was scratched. Mr Osborn's Patrician, Bst 21b, I ; Mr Colvin’s Sweetie, Bst 101 b, 2 ; Mr Morse’s Martonian, Bsr, 3. Captain Cook, Quibble, Steelbone and F.eetWing also ran. -Time, 3tnin 38sec. Dividend, £8 16s fid. Patrioian’s win was a surprise; West Coast Produce Stakes, of 30 sovs ; six furlongs.—Sky bird and Mayboy being scratched, left the race between Mr Wright’s Mies Lacy, Bsh 2lb, and Mr Kelly’s Moss Rose, 6st. It was an unfortunate race. Shortly after the start Miss Lacy stumbled, throwing the rider (S. Middlemas), and leaving Moss Rose to win as she liked. Dividend, £4 2s 6d.

Railway Stakes Handicap, of 40 sova; one mile and a quarter.—Mr Morse’s'Tyrant, 6yrs, 7st 101 b, 1 ; Mr Hnngerford’s Captain Cook, Sst 71b, 2 ; Mr MoConkey’a Coronet, Sat 41b, 3. Won by a length and a half; Coronet nowhere Dividend, £2 9s. Handicap Hurdles, of 50 sors ; two mile. Nine entries, bat settled down to four. The ground was very heavy with rain. There were no falls. It was a gift to College Boy (lOat 21b); Captain Abram (lOst 31b) second, Clarice (10st 91b) third. Sqnib nowhere. Dividend, £2 7s.

Following are the second d ay’s events January 1, Handicap Hurdle p, of 50 sovs ; one mile and three-quarters.—Mr Hobbs’ College Boy, 9at 121 b, 1; Mr Thomas’ Clarice, lOst lib, 2 ; Mr Osborne’s Captain .Abram, 9at 121 b, 3. A capital race. Captain Abram made a cross after the last jump, and. a protest was entered. The stewards disqualified him, placing the horses as stated. Dividend, £1 16s. .

Grey Valley Stakes, of 100 sovs 4 one mile and a.half.—Six entered. British Lion was,the favourite. Mr Colvin’s Sweetie, Sat 71b, 1; Mr Morse’s Martonian, Bst; 2 ; Mr Hobbs’ little Shamrock, Bst' 41b,. 31b. Patrioian,. who had a good chance in the race, fell in a soft place and rolled over his rider,; who appeared to be fatally injured.

British Lion and Steelbone were beaten hollow. Time, 2min 56sec. Dividend, £8 7s. Selling Race Handicap, of 25 sovs; one mile.—Lonely and Honesty were scratched. Sir William and Lioness just about settled down to racing when Lioness came ~to grief at the same soft place where" Patrician fell, fortunately net hurting her rider, but losing her chance In the race. Dividend, £1 ss. Before going further with the races, the Stewards held a meeting with a view of getting the opinion of horse owners as to whether the ground was too bad for running in conscguenoe of the accident to B. Dodds, Patrician’s rider, in the Grey Valley Stakes, The majority declared they were unwilling for any more racing. In the meantime news came that the lad Edward Dodds had died of his injuries. The races were postponed till to-morrow, at the usual hour. The Stewards resolved in the meantime to improve the dangerous bit in the course. The afternoon was beautifully fine. Two thousand were present, including many ladies.
