MELROSE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The Public Works Committee of the Melrose Borough Council will present the folloAving report at the meeting of the Council to-morrow evening The Committee beg to report that Councillor Collins has been appointed to represent the Council at the District Hospital Board for the ensuing term, and also as its representative at the election for a member of the United District Doard. The Committee beg to recommend—l. That the offer of Messrs Joseph and Wright to sell Or lease to the Council the land on the seaward side of the Esplanade, facing sections 662 and 663, Island Bay, be not accepted, and that in consideration of the Council not pressing those gentlemen to fence in their land at the present, acccording to notice given, they will use every endeavour in future to obviate carters and others removing shingle and sand from the road opposite their properties. 2. That the report of the committee re the proposed neiv road at Vcgeltown be adopted. 3. That .the necessary repairs be effected to the culvert at Derwent-street, and a new culvert constructed at Dee-street, Island Bay. _ 4. That tenders be invited from authorised surveyors for the localisation of the Ohiro-road. 5. That an office at the Queen’s Chambers be secured for the use of the Council, possession to be taken from the first day of December next. 6. That accounts amounting to L 73 od be passed for payment.
