Homann and party obtained about 23qz in two days, with one nugget about 7oz. The work has been started to-day for the new track to Mahakipawa. Those who ate competent of judging speak very highly of the gradient.
A new reef has been struck 4ft 6in thick between the Southern Cross and Waikakaho boundaries, Homann and party got between soz and 6oz on Thursday on their terrace claim. Mr Ward, surveyor, is pegging out a dray road, near Dickson’s, to the boundary of the Crown lands. About thirty chains lie through Cullen’s land, and it is intended to take it under the Public Works Act. Oliver Bros, intend building a new hotel
40ft by 40ft, two stories, with billiard room, etc., and thirteen bedrooms, to be completed in one month from signing the contract. Havelock, October 13. A party have left to prospect four miles above the Forks at intend giving It a three months’ trial. Homann and party washed out of one dish 12oz of gold on Friday, A reef has been struck, 7ft thick, in the Waikakaho claim.. Nearly £IOO worth of gold has been sold quietly to-day. lam not an liberty to mention names, but I have just seen some specimens from the Waikakaho claim in which gold is plainly visible to the naked eye. Havelock, October 15. About £3OO worth of gold was sold in Havelock on Saturday. A large quantity was disposed of elsewhere, of which no record can be given. The total of Homann and party’s (four) find last week was 530 z lldwt. Jones, late of Onamalutu, got 21b weight last week. Several finds are not recorded. Blenheim, October 13. One-seventh share in the Southern Cross Reef, Mahakipawa, changed hands to-day for £IOO. The original cost was £5. At Waikakaho, Hart and Gibson, “the prospectors,” took Boz odwts of gold out of a small paddock on Wednesday, one :piece being a soz nugget. Aldridge and party struck gold on Thursday, and, by the end of the week, expect to get good gold.
