Mb T. Kennedy Macdonald may fairly be congratulated upon bis meeting last night. It was an influential and representative one, and was disposed to scrutinise closely and criticise keenly the account of himself given by the ex-candidate for the mayoralty, Mr Macdonald, however, disarmed his critics by the candour and frankness of his statement. He did not lay claim to any superhuman patriotism, but put his ease honestly to his hearers that he could not have carried through the Mayoralty contest without incurring losses and expenses which he did not feel justified in undertaking, especially as a doubt existed in the minds of two lawyers, at any rate, as to his qualification for a seat on the Harbour Board. His explanation was a fair and reasonable one, and was well received. His remarks on municipal matters were very interesting, but pressure on our space precludes any detailed reference to them on the present occasion.
