The Government taxation proposals include a tax of one halfpenny in the £ on land, and threepence on income. Eto de Janeieo, August 17. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s steamship Tainui arrived this evening from Lyttelton. Her cargo of meat is in good condition. Brisbane, August 18. Mr W. "Wilson has been appointed Postmaster-General, and Sir Samuel Griffith Colonial Treasurer, the latter being a temporary appointment. Mr J. li. Dixon, late Colonial Treasurer, speaking in the Legislative Assembly last evening on the Budget proposals, said he believed that the course tire Government was pursuing would lead to incalculable injury to the Colony.
