Mr Rider Haggard, the popular author of “She,” was, some time back, in a book* seller’s shop. A smartly-dressed lady entered, and inquired for Mr Haggard's books. On asking the price, she demurred, remarking, “The fact is, I am to meet the author at dinner to-night, and 1 want to read him up a bit; but he is not worth thirty shillings.” QHDRCH-ROOM, TINAKORI-ROAD.
