Eurther particulars of the railway disaster iu Illinois state that the train consisted of two engines with a large number of cars, which contained over 1000 passengers, chiefly from the town of Peoria. The driver of the foremost engine, on approaching the bridge, sawthatitwasinflames, but was unable to stop his train in time to avert a catastrophe. The engines and carriages were completely wrecked, over 100 persons being killed outright and 400 injured.
