(UNITED PRESS'ASSOCIATION.) Dunedin, July 6. A lively discussion took place- at a meeting >of the Dunedin Presbytery with regard to the Rev A. C, Gillies, who recently resigned the charge of the North Dunedin Church, and received a certificate, but has since conducted services in a hall in town, A motion was made that Mr Gillies be asked as to the nature and purpose of these services, but most of the members were of opinion that it would be unwise to stir in the matter, as Mr • Gillies would soon find it necessary to leave, -and consequently the consideration was postponed till next meeting. Mr Fulton addressed his constituents at the Taieri this evening, and only received a vote of confidence by a bare majority. _ Sir Robert Stout again addressed his constituents. He dealt with the question of borrowing, contending that Major Atkinson’s Government had borrowed more than his Government. He claimed credit for his Government passing a number of special measures for the benefit of the people generally. He received a vote of confidence. At the Supreme Court to-day. Ah You, ; for wounding a fellow countryman, was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment, Thos. Edwards, for unlawfully wounding, was found guilty, and recommended to mercy on the ground of the ill-treatment he received at ; the hands of the prosecutor. The latter, it appeared, when assaulted by the prisoner, -knocked him down. Sentence was deferred. New Plymouth, July 6. The ironworks are still turning out metal in fair quantities. To-day six tons pig was • obtained in two tappings, and four tons more are expected before midnight. Mr Hipkins is highly pleased.? with the success. He • states if £l5O more is subscribed he will guarantee to get over £3OO worth of metal. An effort is to be made to get subscriptions.
