The death is recorded of James Kennedy, once manager of George Stephenson’s works at Kewcastle-oa-Tyne. He planned the first three locomotives on the Stookton and Darlington Eailroad in 1825, and built the Liverpool, tha first locomotive with horizontal cylinders applied directly to the crank shaft Of axle. * . , v
