Daring the sitting Mr Gillies, Premier, made a statement to the effect that the Victorian Government deemed it unnecessary to ask other colonies to renew a pretest regarding the New Hebrides. The only satisfactory solution would h» the fixing of the date of the fithdraqral of French troops. The solonie*; he added, were agreed regarding tie question of the influx of criminals and the prevention of contamination therefrom. (Received August 19, 1 a.m.) Stdket, August 18. Mt G. R. Dibbs has resigned his position in the Cabinet as Colonial Secretary, Owing to a difference of opinion with his colleagues with reference to the proposed establishment of a statistical department.
