The laboring classes in the United States hare commenced an agitation for the initiation of the eight hours’ movement, and strikes extending over a widespread area hare resulted in consequence. At Chicago a serious riot took place yesterday, resulting in the loss of several lives. It is alleged that the outbreak was instigated by a foreign Socialist organisation. Disturbances of a more or less serious nature are reported from several industrial centres.
