RESIDENT MAGTi-TR ATE’S COURT. Wednesday, November 25. {Before Mr H. S. Wardell, R.M) HAWKING WITHOUT A LICENSE. Michael Murphy was charged with peddling without a license on 1-ilb instant, and was fined 20s and costs. CHIMNEY ON FIREWalter Macklin was fined 10s and 7* coats for allowing fc be chimney of hia house to be on fire on the 19th instant. WITHDRAWN. Informations against Walter Macklin, Henry H. 1 ippler, and Augustus P. Mason, for neglecting to vaccinate their children, were withdrawn. UNREGISTERED CART. John Benge pleaded guilty to a charge of neglecting to register bis cart, but said that he was under the impression that he need not do so owing to some remarks made by his Worship when defendant was fined some time ago for a similar offence. The case was allowed to stand over in order to allow the defendant to register his cart and pay the coats of Court, failing which he would be fined. DRIVING A CART IN THE GUTTER. James Moxham admitted that ho drove bis cart in the water channel in Sydney-street on the Bth instant. Mr Johnson, Inspector of Nuisance?, said a great deal of damage had been done to the water channels by carts being driven along them. In this case ho did not press for a heavy penalty. A fine of 5? and 7s costs was imposed. ASSAULTS. William Jensen wm charged, on summons, with assaulting hia wife Mary Jenson on the 19th instant. The defendant pleaded guilty. Mr JelJicoe, who appeared for the complainant, said that Mrs Jenson did not wish to press the charge, and his Worship accordingly inflicted a nominal penalty of la and 7a costs, James Dutbie wn charged with nsaultiug Sarah Ballinger, but neither party appearing, the case wra therefore dismissed. Ann Hood pleaded not guilty to assaulting Charles Henry Davis on Tuesday last. Mr Jellicoe appeared for the prosecution, and Mr Fitzherbert for the defence. The prosecutor, a bailiff, stated that ho wm placed in possessioo of the defendant’s house, but on his entering the premises the defendant behaved very violently, and struck him on the head with a bottle. She threatened to knock witness* brains out if be did not leavo the house. He eventually considered it advisable to depart, and did so. James O’Brien stated that he accompanied the last witness bo Mrs Hood’s residence and saw an “ old woman ” (pointing to defendant) there. The latter used some uncomplimentary language, and he did net wait for more, but left at once after apologising to the “old woman” for intruding. Some further evidence was but the Bench did not consider any case existed, and therefore dismissed the information, ordering the complainant to pay the coats, PROTECTION ORDER. The case in which Elizabeth Brown applied for a protection order against her husband, William James Brown, was struck out, as neither party put in an appearance. Eliza Renton applied for a protection order against her husband, James Renton. The latter did not appear, and the order was granted, the mother to have the custody of the children. NEGLECTING TO SUPPORT. John Jenkins, who was charged with neglecting to comply with an order of the Court to contribute 5* a week towards the support of his father, did not answer the charge, and a sentence of 14 days’ impiisonment was passed on him. The arrears amounted to £4.
