THE MEAT EXPORT COMPANY.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES, Sib, —I am sorry Mr Buchanan has not time for a newspaper correspondence even so'far as to reply to the simple questions I put to him and his brother Directors in my letter published yesterday. lam ready to give Mr Buchanan and his colleagues every credit for all that they have done and suffered. I also must admit that many of the stockowners shirked their duty. While glad to derive every benefit from the enterprise of, and risks incurred by, others, they have most carefully avoided incurring any risk themselves. My only object in writing was to endeavor to clear the stockowners generally from the hard charges brought against them by the Directors, of having made promises, on the strength of which the Directors chartered space, and of having, when the markets fluctuated, failed to fulfil those promises, and, so far only as necessary to do this, to shift the blame on to the right shoulders. Mr Buchanan tells me that I am “under a complete misapprehension.” Perhaps I am. I will endeavor to-morrow to look up my facts, and have them—if such as I believe them to be —in readiness for your nest issue.—l am, &c., Taos. C. Williams. September 2.
