LIABILITIES OF SHIP MASTERS.

(united press association.) Christchurch, September 10. A curions case was heard at the Lyttelton Resident Magistrate’s Court to-day, J, Hoibeye, master of the ship Walroa, was charged with refusing to pay 21s required by regulation 26 of the Diseased Cattle Act, 1881, as a veterinary surgeon’s fee for the Inspection of three doga on board when the vessel arrived. The captain pleaded that they were ship’s dogs, and not imported to the colony, and had not been on shore. Mr Ollivier, li.M., held that dogs found on a vessel coming from foreign ports to the colony mnst be deemed imported, and subject to the regulations of the Act, and gave judgment against the captain for 21a and costs of the case.
