The steamer Thomas Russell brought 200 tons of coal hero from Greymouth for the Gas Company. After 40 tons were taken cut in the roadstead, the steamer was able to come alongside the wharf. The Union Steamship Company’s steamer Taiaroa left Nelson at 1.13 pm on Tuesday, reaching Picton at 9.30, and sailed again at 11.15 pm the same day, arriving hero at 4.20 am yesterday. She experienced light variable winds and smooth sea across the Strait, and sailed for the South at 2 pm. The Union Steamship Company’s steamer Rotorua left Dunedin on Monday, called at Akaroa, and arrived at Lyttelton at 0.10 pm on Tuesday ; moved on at 9 pm the same day, and arrived here at 2 pra yesterday. She sails for Picton and Nelson to-day. The steamers Hauroto and Manapouri are a day late this week; the former arrives hero to-morrow, instead of to-day, from the South, and sails for Sydney the same day, while the latter, from Melbourne and Hobart via Southern port*, arrives hero on Saturday instead of to-morrow, and leaves the same day for Auckland and Russell. , , The departure of the sa Mohaka for Blenheim has been postponed until to-day. The Black Diamond Line steamer Manawatu left Westport at 3 pm on Tuesday, experienced thick rainy weather, with light NL winds, and arrived here at 5.30 pm yesterday. She sails for Wanganui and Westport to-day. The Union Steamship Company’s steamer Penguin is expected hero from Fiji, via Auckland, to-morrow night. She sails for Levuka and Suva on Monday. „ The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company s ship Lyttelton, now lying at Picton, has already 5000 carcases of mutton on board. She now takes them and freezes them at the rate of 350 a day, additional butchers having been procured from Wellington to kill the sheep. On Friday last a ball was given to the officers of the Lyttelton by the residents, at which there were over 200 people present.
