SENIOR CUP MATCH. Notwithstanding the persisted drizzle the first of the Cup matches between the Star and Phoenix C.G.’a was continued on the Basin Reserve on Saturday last, the result being a hollow victory for the Phoenix by one innings and 11 runs. It will be remembered that the Star C.C., in their first innings, scored 31, the Phoenix replying by 9d. On Saturday the Star scored 54, making a total of 85. For the losers Mamill batted very well daring the latter portion of his innings ; bat in the first portion he poked up several.catches, one of which should have been secured when he had scored 4 only. For the victors Holmes and Lawson bowled well, especially taking into consideration the greasy state of the oall ; and the wicket-keeping of Miles deserves mention, the fielding on the whole being well up to the mark.
