VOLUNTEERS.

The Naval Artillery Volunteers and the D Battery of Artillery met at the Polhill Gaily ranges on Saturday, to compete for the district prizes (offered by the Government) under the supervision of Major Butts and Captain Crowe, there being a very large attendance of competitors from each corp The conditions were five shots at ranges 200, 300, and 500 yards, standing, kneeling, and lying down. The Petone Naval Artillery also competed at their owt\ range, under the supervision of Sergeant-Major Bell. There were eight prizes in money, and it will be seen from the appended scores that the NaVals are again to the f irs, and have taken six out of the eight prizes offered ; first prize, Seaman W. Harris (Naval-),‘ 47 points £5 0 0 Second prize, Seaman J. Scanlon (Navals), 44 points 4 0 0 Third prize, C.Petty-officerF.France (Navals), 44 pointa ... ~300 Fourth prize, Gunner W, Williams (Artillery), 43 points 2 10 0 Fifth prize. Seaman E. Nash (Navals), 43 pointa 2 5 0 Sixth prize, Seaman W, Randell (Navals), 43 points ... ...2 0 0 Seventh prize, Sergeant P. Webb (Artillery), 42 pointa 1 10 0 Eighth prize, Seaman W. Gawith (Navals), 41 paints 1 2 0 Connted-ont, Seaman H, Dixon (Navals). Tho Naval Artillery and D Battery will meet again on the Ist December next, at Evans Bay, to fire for tbe District Ordnance prizes of £5, £4, £3, and £2 17s 6d, The Eaiwarra Rifles on Saturday competed for the company’s trophies, under the following conditions The Cap to be won three times by the same competitor ; ranges, 400, 500, and 600 yards, five shots at each range. Private E. Coleman was the highest in the first class, and Snb-Lient. White in the second class, with 47 and 38 points respectively, ont of a possible 60. The highest scores in each class are as under : Fiasr Class.
