In Chambers this morning, Mr Weston applied for an order annulling the bankruptcy of Duncan McOallum, of the Tambour-Major Opera Company, on the ground that the proceedings should have been taken iu Wellington, also that sufficient notice had not been given. Mr Joynt appeared for the bankrupt. Judge Johnston postponed his decision. The work of loading frozen mutton on the 8.8. British Bang commenced thjs morning. Dunedin; March 30. In Chambers to-day, Mr Justice Williams granted an application for a change of vouue in the Massey case. The tral is ordered to take place in Invercargill on 21th April. Mr M. W. Green, M. EL R., has addressed a lengthy letter to the Colonid Treasurer, poin • ing out the impracticability of his national insurance scheme ; also, shadowing forth one of his own, and asking the Treasurer to liy his aside and assist in getting a law passed giving force to the other. Mr Green lays his scheme before a public meeting at the Princess Theatre ou Thursday. The inquest on the boy Harry Wain, 7J years old, sen of Frederick Wain, concerning whom the repor-s as to ill-treatment have been published, began to-day. The only witness examined to-day was Mrs Mitchell, a nurse, who had been attending Mn Wain daring her confinement, and whose attention was attracted to the boy by bis miserable appearance. The parents afterwards placed the boy in her charge, paying for his keep. She .deposed to having seen Mrs Wain tie the boy’s bands behind bis back, and Mrs Wain told her this was done to restrict him from an evil habit be had acquired. The inquest will be resumed on Monday. Oamaru, March 30.

At the District Court to-day Judge Ward said that in the absence of the proclamation constituting the district under the Licensing Act of 1881, he could not hold that the Act was in force, a previous conviction in the K.M. Court was, on the strength of this opinion, quashed by His Honor. Auckland, March 30.

Mr MoMinn, ex-member for Waipa, in the General Assembly, whose sudden death is announced, was apparently in good health yesterday evening. He partook of a hearty meal before retiring, and was found dead in his bed this morning by the servant. An inquest is to be held on Saturday. Some Auckland merchants have entered into a contract with the French authorities to deliver 300 tons flour at Noumea, at intervals in the current year. The trustees of the Auckland Savings Bank are precluded by charter from declaring a dividend of more than 5 per cent. The accumulated profits amount to £19,000, and it is proposed to get an Act passed next session whereby that sum can be used for the erection of an art gallery and school of art ia Auckland, The Hon. J. Bryce, Mr Hurstbouse, and Wetere proceed through the King Country to Taranaki, via Mokau, after the trial of Mahuki and his followers is over. Captain Johnston, of the Marine Department, and Mr Blackett, Engineer-in-Ohief, have gone to Kaipara to fix a site for the lighthouse to be erected. At the first annual meeting of the Auckland Agricultural Company, the report showed a profit of £13,000, being 16J per cent, on paid-up capital. Eight per cent, dividend was declared, and the balance carried forward. Eight criminal cases and one civil case are set down for hearing at the Supreme Court, though there are nearly 30 prisoners, including Walker's ejectment eases, and Mahuki’s case.
