NAPIER AGRICULTURAL SHOW.
(UNITED PII EBB ASSOCIATION.) . Napier, October 5. The Agricultural Pastoral Society’s Show’, held yesterday and to-day,' was fairly successful, but the wind was blowiug a hurricane, and the clouds of diist were very unpleasant. In merinos, the chief honors were carried off by -Messrs Douglas, McLean, Royse and Anderson, and D. Mollan. Locally-bred sheep, in nearly every case, beat the imported exhibits, which were numerous. In long wool, the ram prizes were divided between A. McHardy and W. Dolbel, but A. Tanner carried off every ewe prize, chit fly with sheep from P. Russell’s Otupai flock, Canterbury. In cattle, the honor takers were Rev. S. Williams, A. McHardy, and J. D. Ormond. Sheep and cattle were remarkably high quality. Some good horses,, thoroughbred, and draught. Were also exhibited. Of implements, &c., however, there was a very indifferent show, save in locally-made: buggies and carriages. Poultry and dogs, poorly represented. . One exhibit, which received much attention, comprised samples of farinaceous food, white and colored starob, British gum, glucose, ay rap, and imitation grape ■ugar,-all made from potatoes unfit for human food and bad grain, by Mr-Liddell, of RiveraTea Station,
