THEATRE FOR TE ARO.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. Sin,—Some time ago a proposal to form a new Theatre .Company ia Wellington was submitted to the citizens. After one meagrely attended meeting, the affair appeared to vanish into thin air, I trust that this is not the case, .and that the Te Aro Public Hall Company will not sink, into oblivion like many other grand schemes propounded in Wellington. To me it is an incomprehensible thing that in a laige town like Wellington the citizens are content with such an edifice as the Theatre Royal—a building totally inadequate, both as regards accommodation before and behind the curtain. It 1s true that new seats are coming out from Home for the circle, and improvements are intended to be made in the stalls, but a large proportion of patrons will still have to put up with battered and uncomfortable accommodation. X am sure there is ample room for another' theatre in Wellington, after the style of the. late Opera House. If Christchurch and Auckland can support two decent theatres, then surely the Empire City can. The Wellington public are great theatre-goers, as is evident from the liberal support given to any really good company who perform here. Let us hope that the promoters of the intended hew theatre will once mare bring their plans prominently before the, public. I would suggest that the shares, instead of being at £5 each, be reduced to £l. A far larger number would then be taken. up. Trusting these few remarks may have the dosired effect of waking hp the promoters from: their somnolence.—l am, &c., Wellington, Oct. 6. THESPIS.
