The Spring Meeting of the . Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club came off to-day at Hastings.; The weather was dull but fine,, with a light breeze blowing. About 2000 persona ware present on the coarse. The betting fraternity was fairly represented, and there were two totalisitors, which latter did not appear to work; very smoothly at first. The first event, Hawke’s Bay Guineas, brought out a field of seven horses, Kiugat-k, Raugipo, and Te Ata being the favorites. The following are the results Handicap Hubdle Hack of 60sovs ; distance, about 2 miles. X.O. .. .. •• 1 Morning Star : 2 A field of five faced the starter. Borneo was scratched. A, G. led off, followed by Morning Star. Loneband qame to grief at the first hurdle, and rolled byer, throwing his rider. Tartar missed the hurdle at the back of the course, leaving the race 1 to Morning Star/ A. G., and Rualunej who ran in the order named. The second time round Bnahipe ran behind a hurdle near the,judge’s box, thus reducing the race to two,competitors. Morning Star, who had the! race apparently all bis own way, fell at the last' hurdle,’ the’ bit getting out of his mouth, and did not finish, A. G. coming in an easy winner. Ta Ata, who was rather refractory, ran off the'course at the start, and Carmen followed suit. At the back of the course Yankee, Kingask, Rangipo, and Mahanga'were all well together, in the order named, with Laribaudiere, who was never in'the race l from the commencement, far behind. Coming into tbs straight, Yankee rushed forward/but was'soon : cbllared by Kingask, who was in turn deposed by Bangipo. An exciting race tock place between the last-named pair, Kingask winning by scarcely half a length. Yankee and.
