FOOTBALL.
The Special Committee appointed to selecta team to represent Wellington in the return match with Sydney, to be played on Friday next, met yesterday afternoon, and picked the following trial fifteen to meet all-comers this afternoon. The above team is, of course, merely a provisional one, as two or three of the most prominent city players, and all the country players, will not be able to take part in the game to-day. Play will commence at the conclusion of the match between the second fifteens of the Wellington and Athletic Clubs, which is to start at 2.30 p.m. :—Full-backs : Firth and McGregor. Half-backs : G. H. Smith and A. Thomson. Quarter-backs ; Dumbell, Brown, and Kirk, Forwards: Roberts, Gibbes, Peat, J, Thomson, Connal, King. Webb, and Bolton. Practice will be held at Newtown every evening up to the date of the match, and a full muster of players is urgently requested by the Committee, so that the representative fifteen may have every opportunity of getting into good working order.
The following team has been picked to represent the Athletic Club in the second fifteen match this afternoon :—Messrs Gardner, Area, Berry, Chubb, Berry, Grimstonc, Harrup, Holdsworth, Jagger, Kebbell, Luxford, McGowan, Pauling, Stock, and Young ; emergencies—Tripe, Kilnet, and Leighton. Wellington F. C,—Messrs Dasent, Ridings, Snow, J. Smith, Colbeck, Hoggard, W. R. Holmes, C. Kreeft, 0. Kreeft, Ewen, Bright, Bunny, Cameron, Richmond, J. C. Smith. Emergency—Baddeley (back), Hempden, Conolly, and Goodall (forwards). Play will start at 2.30,
